Window La Defense

A unique and distinctive structure.

The horizontal nature of the building contrasts with the neighboring towers leading to it becoming informally known as the tour Allongée (stretched-out tower) or Gratte sol (ground scaper). The aim of the refurbishment was create movement in the facades by introducing pleats as well as a specific treatment using a protrusion over the atriums.

The challenge

The Window La Défense project presented a series of complex challenges that tested the limits of creativity and technical expertise. Set against the bustling backdrop of Paris, capturing the essence of this iconic office building required more than just standard filming and illustration techniques.

The ongoing design stage added layers of complexity, as we needed to visualize a project still in flux, ensuring that each rendering and shot aligned with the evolving architectural vision.

Filming in one of the most crowded cities in the world brought its own set of hurdles. Navigating the dynamic urban environment of Paris, we had to capture the building’s presence amidst the energy of La Défense while carefully managing logistics in such a densely populated area.

The integration of VFX became essential, allowing us to seamlessly blend real footage with digital elements, creating a cohesive and striking narrative that accurately represents the building’s future form.

This approach ensured that the final package of illustrations and film not only served as powerful marketing tools but also as a reflection of the building's design intent.

The designs

Two monumental, glazed atriums bring light into the internal space creating a convivial meeting area. Restaurants, meeting rooms, office space and an auditorium have been included to encourage dialogue between both visitors and office workers.

Key elements

Open stairwells and walkways allow for fluid circulations, both horizontally and vertically. The raised ceiling height improves the working environment, while the flexible space encourages new working methods. This project offers a glimpse of what La Défense will be like in 20 years’ time. Window La Défense has been awarded the following certifications: HQE Construction BR 2010 and BREEAM Excellent.
